Addictions

Did you know that having a blood relative who exhibits addictive behaviors makes you 50% more likely to exhibit similar behaviors yourself?

This Monday I saw a new client who specifically came to me for help with a gambling addiction.

Her father was an alcoholic, her mother was a sex addict, and her 10 year old daughter was already in therapy for binge eating.

Through P-DTR, we are able to modulate the emotional intensity of an experience or memory.

Essentially, we worked to dampen the magnetic pull she feels towards gambling.

We addressed many aspects of the 'experience' of gambling together- the feel of the chips in her hand, the sound of cards being shuffled, prominent visual pictures of the sight of the cards in her hand, the wistful idea of her walking away with her pockets stuffed with cash.

These changes help her to better integrate any addictive and compulsive thoughts that had nearly led her to complete bankruptcy last year.

The brain can create so much unrest in the physical and emotional self but with the right tools it can be the key to the greatest healing too.
