Low Back Stiffness

Nondescript lower back pain is probably one of the most common complaints clients come in with.

Such was the case this morning with a high powered businessman. While he had no pain to report, he had been suffering on and off from chronic tightness throughout his lower back.

Upon testing him, his body was globally hypertonic. More simply put, his body had gone into lockdown mode and was incapable of appropriately relaxing and contracting muscles from a functional standpoint.

The culprit? Lumbar compression.

While our spine is built to withstand compressive forces, poor posture, arthritis, trauma to the disc, and more can often impede our ability to move away from a compressed state when it’s no longer necessary.

In this gentleman’s case, after clearing out impact around the facet joints and sacrum, his spine was moving freely again and the muscular tightness he had been experiencing immediately released.

Without proper force transmission, our joints are unable to rapidly adapt to our constantly changing environment.
