Iliolumbar Ligament

This past week, students in the P-DTR Amsterdam Intermediate course delved into an in depth examination of spinal biomechanics.

One of the most thorough protocols students learned was a full evaluation of the three bands of the iliolumbar ligament.

This ligament is crucial in ensuring the stability of the lumbosacral spine on the pelvis.

Some common symptoms of dysfunction to look for here include reduced or excessive pelvic rotation, inflammation or pain over the iliac crest, chronic instability of L4/5 and the sacroiliac joint, increased discomfort with extensive sitting, standing, or twisting.

By having an extremely thorough understanding of the way the body is designed to function, we can more efficiently spot dysfunctions and recognize them for what they are.

Knowledge= empowerment.
